As many of you know, I have been a member of Critical Resistance since 2007. CR is a national grassroots organization fighting to end our reliance on prisons, policing and surveillance as solutions to social, economic and political issues. Instead, we believe that stable housing, meaningful work, quality education, access to healthcare and conflict resolution that doesn't rely on punishment or social control are what make for healthy, liberated and self-determined communities. Over the years I have worked on campaigns such as supporting the massive prisoner hunger strikes of 2011 and 2013 that won substantive changes to solitary confinement in California and the successful fight to end the use of gang injunctions in Oakland. Currently, I participate in the Abolitionist newspaper working group. This paper is a vital resource that goes inside for free to over 5000 imprisoned people nation-wide. I have dedicated countless hours to this organization and movement that are very near and dear to me.
