Dear friends and supporters of Critical Resistance,

As we reflect on 2024, a year marked by global crises and increased repression of our movements, we are grateful for the resilience and commitment of our community, including your invaluable support. This year, Critical Resistance (CR) has not only continued to advance our mission to make prison industrial complex (PIC) abolition tangible and irresistible, but has also achieved significant campaign victories, created concrete organizing tools to further abolitionist analysis and action, actively supported international and cross-sector liberation struggles, and made strategic internal enhancements to ensure our organization is robust and ready for the uncertain times ahead. Your unwavering support has been crucial in enabling these accomplishments, fostering environments of resistance, and strengthening our collective capacity for sustained action against the PIC.

Your generosity is crucial to sustaining our campaigns and projects, correspondence across cages, the organizing tools we create and distribute, and our power building alongside allied organizations. With your help this year, we…

  • Organized alongside California coalition partners to advance the fight for statewide prison closures by building community momentum to close a prison in Norco, compelled a $750 million cut to California’s corrections budget, and advocated for shrinking the overall prison system’s capacity.
  • Organized with New York coalition partners to build up community resistance against immigrant detention by hosting days of action, community forums, phone zaps targeting legislators, and more.
  • Fully reactivated our local mail programs in each of our chapter cities, and revamped and strengthened our remotely-run prisoner phone lines - allowing us to correspond with thousands of imprisoned comrades by sharing resources, information, and political dialogue to strengthen organizing across the walls.
  • Shared The Abolitionist newspaper Issue #41 on Ecological Justice with over 5,000 people inside prisons, jails, and detention centers for free, and with hundreds of paid subscribers and movement partners. Issue #42 on Anti-War Organizing is coming this December!

CR has remained true to our work wielding abolition as part of global struggles against inequality and powerlessness. PIC abolition is necessary across all freedom fights such as struggles against colonialism, ecological collapse, fascism, and more - and CR works tirelessly to forge alliances across all fronts for liberation. The past 25+ years of our organizing to dismantle systems of imprisonment, policing, and surveillance were made possible by the people power of thousands offering their time, effort, and resources. As we brace and get in fighting form for the next period, will you continue to support CR in our work to abolish the PIC? We invite you to become monthly sustainers to support abolitionist organizing for the long haul!

This year-end season, we are working to raise $90,000 across the entire organization for our chapters, projects, and overall movement building work. We aim to raise -

We appreciate donations of your time, effort, and funds to sustain our organizing, this year and the next!
