$2,200 towards $5,000

Abolition to me is about a few things:

  • It's about realizing that jails and prisons are not solutions to real or imagined societal issues
  • It's about believing that employment, housing, healthy food, community support and healthcare keep us safe- not police
  • It's about committing to do the hard work of healing, utilizing transformative justice practices, practicing forgiveness, and being dedicated to self-accountability as responses to harm rather than relying on punishment

For over 20 years Critical Resistance (CR) has been able to build powerful campaigns and projects that chip away at the harms we experience in our community, and build up root cause solutions in their place. For decades CR has been able to fight against the prison industrial complex because of your support, and we need you now to keep up the fight for a better world.

A donation from you would go a long way in supporting the next 20 years of Critical Resistance's work. In case you're not familiar with us yet, here's an idea of what your support will go towards:

Shut Down 850 Campaign

In light of the corona virus, prisoners all over the nation are being released due to the horrible conditions of jails and prisons that are a hot bed for the spread of disease. While I believe that decarceration of our jails and prisons to avoid the spread of disease in this uncertain time is timely and appropriate, CR in coalition with our movement partners has been calling for the closure of San Francisco county jail since 1996. Your support to continue the safe decarceration of all people caged in 850 Bryant will go towards:

  • $5 = a cup of coffee and a snack for loved ones outside 850 during Saturday jail outreach
  • $5 = stack of print ed flyers and materials for mobilizations and outreach
  • $10 = light lunch for attendee of coalition orientation

Oakland Power Projects

CR Oakland developed the Oakland Power Projects, which helps emphasize to Oakland residents that we can make our families and neighborhoods safe without relying on the cops. By identifying current harms, amplifying existing resources, and developing new practices that do not rely on policing solutions, people can invest in practices, relationships, and resources that build community power and wellbeing. Here are some things your dollars go toward in Oakland's fight against policing!

  • $5 = stack of printed flyers and materials for our Know Your Options workshops
  • $20 = a health kit including gloves, gauze, sanitizer, and information on how to properly use kit items

4400 Telegraph

CR Oakland has a brand new building! In our process to make the most out of our new space before our move to 4400 Telegraph next year, we strive to make this a true hub of community engagement. Over the past year, we have held community, family-friendly events at the building and spoken to numerous community members to collaboratively envision how the space can serve the area. Here are some things your dollars go toward in our effort to create this new community hub!

  • $1 = stickers that promote the new building
  • $5 = stack of informational postcards about Second Saturday events
  • $5 = art supplies for our childcare area at events
  • $7 = food for one person at our Second Saturday events, where we normally feed 50+ people
  • $10 = donations to pay youth workers for services
  • $10 = tables and chairs

Support an Active Member

I'm coming up on my 3-year anniversary as a member of Critical Resistance! I joined CR on May 14, 2017 (my birthday!) and I can say that since joining CR I have: sharpened my political analysis, tapped into work that fulfills me, met amazing and inspiring people, and have been working on my rigor and accountability! I love CR and want to contribute to the future of the organization. Here's what your support can do for me:

  • $5 = covers a cup of coffee to help me stay present and engaged during our evening meetings
  • $10 = is a contribution to the food the chapter buys for us during our monthly political education sessions
  • $20 = covers gas money to be able to loan out my car to members going to speaking sessions, marches, actions, etc
  • $50 = will cover the cost of printing our dope swag like t-shirts, sweatshirts, and tote bags!
  • $100 = will cover supplies for me to host a (post-corona virus) cookout for cash - a low key BBQ hangout at my place with food, drinks, screen tees, and sometimes house plants, to raise money for CR
  • $200 = will cover 2 (post-corona virus- seriously stay inside rn) cookout for cash events, and I'll make you a custom cocktail if you come through!
  • $500 = you just really love me, and I love you too <3

I'm committing to raising $5,000 for Critical Resistance in 2020.

Can I count on your support this year? I'm excited at the opportunity for us to work toward building an abolitionist future together.
