Thanks to our amazing network of grassroots supporters around the world, Critical Resistance has been able to build powerful campaigns and projects that chip away at the harms of the prison industrial complex. Your support and belief in abolition keeps us going strong.
Just a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for Critical Resistance.
I first came into contact with Critical Resistance in 2015 in my community organizing class at San Francisco State University. They discussed how SF was about to borrow a massive amount of money from the state to build a new jail. Critical Resistance explained how the jail would continue to increase the issues of inequality that our society faces, thus the beginning of my abolitionist journey. Learning about the ways cages, policing and surveillance are used in response to community need I started to see all the ways my life intertwined in the analysis abolition gave. They had me instantly, I went to my first meeting at city hall to see what would happen and they shut down the meeting. At that moment I saw the power of community and I've never looked back. The city eventually refused the funds and this year during the pandemic we were able to get the city to close the jail they planned to replace, it had been slated for demolition for decades.
Now abolition is talked about throughout the city and country. And more than ever we need to be investing in new ways of addressing the harms in our world and Critical Resistance is one of the organizations with a rich history of pushing for true abolitionist visions.
